Ticket Machine

This type of machine was used by the conductor on trams and buses to dispense tickets. There are a number of hinged openings to insert rolls of tickets, and it appears to have been painted originally, though the paint is mostly worn away now. The machine is attached to a leather carrying strap, worn around the conductor's body.
