In Barbados, there are many Glenboig bricks used in paths all around the island. Apparently, these were used as ballast for the outgoing journey on large ships which were destined to return with sugar and rum on the return journey. The ballast was therefore used for building and paths all over the island. I have a picture of glenboig (and other Scottish brickworks) bricks in the paths of Island Inn, Bridgetown; the first rum store to be used by the British garrison in Barbados.

I have a sidewalk made from these bricks. They were in a shed on a farm we purchased in British Columbia. I'm told they were from the boiler room in a now closed department store in the town of Mission. My wife's name is Dorothy so we call it the yellow brick road. I can submit a picture if you like. Fraser THANK YOU, WHAT A LOVELY STORY. WE WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED TO SEE A PICTURE OF THOSE BRICKS.
