Calder Firebrick, 1900s

The brickworks was located in Greenend, near Airdrie. Firebricks are made from fireclay and were used in industries where high temperatures were required, for example in blast furnaces, the pottery industry and chemical works. The brciks remained stable in temperatures up to 1500 degrees celcius where ordinary bricks would warp or melt.
