Rivet Snap

This tool is an accessory for a pneumatic hammer that is used in riveting.

The rivet snap fits into the front of the hammer and is used to flatten the end of a heated rivet to fix it into place. As the rivet cools it contracts, making a very tight join.

Rivets were orginally hammered by hand but a pneumatic tool made the job much quicker. This particular tool was used at Thomas Hudson and Company's Sheepford Boiler Works.
