Turning Hay by Millie Frood (1900-1988)

Frood (1900-1988) was born in Motherwell and studied at Glasgow School of Art, later teaching at Bellshill Academy. She was the oldest surviving member of The New Scottish Group, a movement that did much to revitalise the arts in Glasgow in the 1940s and '50s and had a continuing influence in the period following. In 1958, Turning Hay was displayed in Airdrie Library alongside 49 other works. J.D. Fergusson, a fellow New Scottish Group member, opened the exhibition when he was 84 years old.
