These leather boots have horse-shoe style iron plates on their soles to protect them from wear. Pair of hand-made leather children's boots dating from 1870. Horse shoe style iron plates protect the wooden soles, the leather is fastened to the sole by metal rivets and the boots fasten by two oval hooks at the instep. The high heel, traditionally used in riding boots, is another clue as to its intended use.
