Loyal Order of Ancient Shepherds Medal

A medal of the Loyal Order of Ancient Shepherds, a friendly society founded in 1826 near Manchester. This friendly society was concerned with the welfare of shepherds - members would pay a contribution, and the society in return would pay to support sick members and their families, and provide for funerals. The Order had a large membership in Scotland. The medal is made of gold-coloured metal with the coat of arms and insignia in red and blue enamel, with a red and white ribbon.
