Dalziel Co-op Women's Guild Banner, 1860s

The Motherwell branch was founded in 1860 with 73 members. The society served working class customers through a store in Merry Street and supplied outlying areas with a horse drawn delivery van. The contribution of the Women’s Co-op is illustrated by this banner; it reflects a confidence in the role of women in their own communities and a celebration of their contribution.
