Taking up the tram tracks in Motherwell, 1930s

The Lanarkshire Tramways Company stopped running its trams in 1931. Here we see workers feeding cobbles that had lined the tram lines into a crushing machine sometime in the 1930s. In the background, on the left you can see one of the tram poles that supported the overhead power supply for the tramcars.

The last surviving Lanarkshire tramcar is preserved at Summerlee Museum in Coatbridge.
