Gartsherrie Iron Works, around the 1920s

This view of the works shows the extensive infrastructure for handling raw materials. Caledonian Railway wagons bring the raw materials to the site where they are moved by grabs suspended on wires between pylons. The rows of furnaces and stoves are visible at centre-right with the spire of the parish church visible just above them.

The chimneys of Summerlee Iron Works are visible in the distance, dating the photograph to no later than 1938.
