Warrant Plans for a Silk Factory, Airbles Street, Motherwell, 1910

The Govan architect Andrew Reid designed the Glasgow firm Anderson & Robertson's new silk factory in Motherwell. By the time it closed in 1964 this was the last silk throwsters in Scotland.

My late great aunt worked in the silk factory but hated it. She said the air was full of silk particles and was bad for the workers lungs. But they were no other jobs available but after the war she worked in Smiths Clocks and much preferred it.
