Postcard of Miners at the Face, early 1900s

This picture postcard shows two miners at work "in a Lanarkshire mine". The man on the left is using a pick axe to undercut the coal seam which will then be brought down by explosives. The miner on the right is using a ratchet drill to make holes for the explosive charges.

The postcard appears to have been sent by a member of the orchestra at Motherwell's New Century Theatre to give their address. The theatre opened in 1901 so the card can't have been sent before then.
