War Service Badge, David Colville & Sons Ltd, 1914-1918
Steelworks were vital to the production of munitions and other ‘war work’. However there was huge pressure on men to enlist in the Armed Forces. Companies such as Lanarkshire steel giant David Colville & Sons issued badges for employees to wear indicating that they were engaged in vital war work – O.H.M.S stands for “On His Majesty’s Service”.
