Brochure for Modern Electric Overhead Travelling Cranes, 1930s

This fold-out advertising leaflet is for electric cranes for factories built by George Russell and Co of Motherwell. Early overhead cranes were steam powered but because they were used indoors that was not very suitable so electric cranes were preferred. The brochure also advertises the welded construction which was something that only became common in the 1930s as welding technology improved and began to replace riveting.
