Article on George Russell Coaling Cranes, 1944

Coaling cranes were used on a dockside to lift coal into ships to drive their steam engines. This Second World War-era article describes some cranes built by George Russel and Company of Motherwell. Coaling soon became unnecessary as oil quickly replaced coal for firing ships' boilers in the post-war period.
