Female workers, Dalzell Steelworks Shell Shop, Motherwell 1916

Women workers from the shell shop at Dalzell Steelworks, Motherwell, about 1916. Also pictured (centre, in the broad brimmed hat) is Lady Hamilton of Dalzell. Note the sand embankment behind them - this was possibly for the manufacture of shell castings, although it could potentially have been to limit damage from any explosive accidents in the shell shop.
