Workers from the 11" mill at Waverley Steelworks pose for a group photograph dated 1917.

In 1912 the Waverley became part of the Scottish Iron & Steel Company. By the time of this photograph the Company had begun (with support from the Ministry of Munitions) the building of Northburn Steelworks next to the Waverley, with a view to increasing industrial output for the war effort.
