A Boiler Flue, Coatbridge, about 1900

This photograph shows a flue from inside a Cornish or Lancashire boiler at the works of Thomas Hudson, Coatdyke. In this case the boiler has failed because you can see that the flue has collapsed. This may have been caused by the boiler exploding.

You can see how the flue is made from sheets of steel curved into a tube, the ends of which are flanged and riveted to the next tube.
