Ravenscraig Blast Furnace by J Buchan, 1958

Blast furnace number 1 at the new Ravenscraig Steel Works was lit for the first time on 1 August 1957. This watercolour was made the following year and shows the conical top of the furnace. Above it are pipes to capture and recycle the waste gases from the furnace.
