China Tea Set, 1800s

Four piece set decorated with a matching crest and the motto Requiesto Sub Umbra, believed to be associated with the Hamiltons of Dalzell, although the crest differs slightly from the norm. The china is thought to have been damaged in transit from England to South Africa when its owner emigrated.

Hamilton family of Dalzell · Mrs Vickery (nee Haddow) was the donor's grandmother and the owner of the china. She was originally from Taunton, Somerset. Her husband was from Bude, Cornwall. There are no known family links to Scotland, although it is believed the china was broken during transit from England to South Africa, where Mrs Vickery emigrated.
