Miner's Cruzie Lamp

An polished brass miner's lamp. A cone-shaped body with a circular screw-on lid, with a spout for the wick and a handle for carrying, or for hooking onto a cap or a support. These lamps burned with an open flame, using a reservoir of oil or tallow in the jug for fuel. Belonged to Duncan Ferguson, born in 1875. He was son of the Manager of Allanton Colliery.

1875 - 1957 · Ferguson, Duncan · Wishaw, Scotland · Duncan Ferguson was born in 1875 the son of the mine manager at Lochore and Benatry Colliery north of Cowdenbeath in Fife. His first job was at nearby Hill of Beath. Later in his career he joined the Coltness Iron Company for whom he became the manager of Kingshill Colliery Allanton near Wishaw (1928-1947).
