Papuan betel spatula

This spatula is most likely from Papua New Guinea's Massim area or neighbouring islands. It is carved from lime wood, and was dipped in lime powder, which was chewed with betel nut, a popular stimulant drug. The squatting figure is a common motif in the Pacific region.
