Flint arrowhead

These arrowheads were previously billed as the oldest discovery in North Lanarkshire, but in fact there are far older tools from the Woodend Loch Mesolithic site. Barbed arrowheads like these were common in the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age, and especially associated high status Beaker Culture burials. Beaker people had specialised archers who probably represent a warrior class, though they may have enjoyed hunting as a status sport as well. There are many local Beaker Culture sites, e.g. at Uddingston, Ferniegair, and Drumpellier.
