'Smoothie' Portable Electric Iron, about 1950

Produced by Lucas Holder Ltd, this portable electric iron dates to about 1950. First introduced in 1946, the 'Smoothie' was developed at a time of increasing access to electricity.

Compact and designed to be able to plug into a lamp socket - or quite often the ceiling light sockets, a method popular at the time - it was marketed as something that could be easily taken and used on holiday or other travel.

I have smoothie electric iron. I was given it around 30 years ago. It still has original box. I don’t know what to do with it. Loathe to dump it. Maybe a collector would appreciate it? *Hi Shona, I'm afraid we couldn't take another one of these objects as we also have it's original box, and try not to collect duplicates. Another museum might be interested though, or even a local school for a history loan box?*
