Off-white linen sheet reputed to have been the death shroud of the Covenanter John Whitelaw of Stand, who was executed for treason at Edinburgh's Grassmarket on 30th November 1683. It has been patched in the centre, with a relatively precise rectangle of the original fabric having been cut and removed. This is suggestive of a smaller piece having been removed by someone as a keepsake or token of a Covenanting relic.
