Friendly Society Apron, Monkland Steel Works, around 1818 or later

Monkland Steel Works Friendly Society was instituted in 1818. This handpainted apron bears the Society's motto 'BY HAMMER IN HAND ALL ARTS DO STAND' below the image of an anvil and above a crest comprising a hand holding a hammer surmounted by a crown and flanked by a thistle and rose.
