Mediterranean Oil Lamp

An ancient terracotta oil lamp with a rounded body. This lamp's most distinctive feature is the moulded portrait of a bearded man in profile on the top. The man wears a headdress, and he is framed with geometric decoration. This lamp came from a collection of ancient Cypriot and Roman items.

From a box marked Mediterranean pottery. Some items in this box appear to have been part of a collection of Graeco-Phoenician Culture artefacts from Cyprus. See the 1927 Airdrie Museum Guide. Other items in the box appear to be of Roman origin.
