Independent Order of Rechabites Banner, 1922

Kilsyth had a strong temperance movement, which successfully voted the town 'dry' in 1922, an act that lasted until 1967. The Rechabites were a temperance order, so-called after a Biblical people who were forbidden by tribal custom from drinking wine.
