Book, 'The Buffalo Hunters And Other Tales', Gartsherrie, 1874
This book was awarded to Elizabeth Ballantyne of Gartsherrie Works School on 30th July 1874 for ‘cutting out’ – presumably meaning accuracy in cutting out pieces of fabric for stitching. Books were prohibitively expensive for working class people at this time, and school prizes like this would have been cherished possessions.
