Vertical Lathe

This machine was used for trimming the edges of the dished (dome-shaped) ends of boilers.

After Thomas Hudson and Company stopped making whole boilers in the years after the First World War they continued to make these dished ends and supplied them to other boiler manufacturers.

The machine is unusual because it was made in the 1890s by converting an older planing machine.
